Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to become an integral part of our IT team.  Our company requires an individual that is comfortable in an agile environment and enjoys opportunities to cross into multiple facets of IT.  This position will specialize in supporting our business users by providing infrastructure support as well as understanding our applications and providing troubleshooting assistance. 

The overall infrastructure architecture is managed by the Infrastructure Manager, which will leverage the Systems Administrator in assisting with planning and executing infrastructure projects. 

 

Additionally, this role may evaluate technical resources from IT consulting companies to provide guidance for more senior level and complex projects resulting in managing hours and spending for professional services.  Lastly, you will work closely with our other IT Support Specialist to share responsibilities in learning, understanding, and supporting our current infrastructure and rooting out innovations for more streamlined and resilient technical methodologies. 

 

This is an on-site role, based out of our Lawrence office. 

Responsibilities

  • Gain a deep understanding of organizational workflows, business applications, and strategic goals to ensure infrastructure aligns with operational needs.
  • Responsible for managing day-to-day helpdesk operations, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and access issues. You’ll collaborate closely with our IT Support Specialist, providing guidance on more complex issues and ensuring consistent, high-quality support for all our users.
  • Proactively communicate system changes to users clearly to properly prepare them for required events that may impact their ability to access systems.  This may include email blasts, conference calls, virtual conferencing and/or live sessions.
  • Management of active directory including user accounts, permissions, email, and group policies.
  • Mitigate system issues proactively by setting up and utilizing system monitoring solutions to identify potential risks and preemptively resolving before issue(s) impacts production.
  • Assists with system upgrades by creating and executing against a detailed project plan and conducting several iterations of testing before promoting changes in order to minimize impacts on end users.
  • Help define and drive security policies and solutions to protect systems and information
  • Collaborate with team to streamline onboarding processes allowing for a consistent and streamlined new hire experience, including license acquisition, device procurement and build, and user setup.
  • Co-responsible for maintaining and supporting all company devices: servers, workstations, mobile devices, printers, mobile printers, phones, headsets, warehouse rugged devices, network equipment.
  • Create well-formed training materials and training schedule for end user education of new devices, technology, and/or software. 
  • Adheres to current documentation methodologies and contributes to existing knowledge base.
  • Take time to share thoughts openly with the team in a constructive and conducive manner.
  • Protects the organization’s value and integrity by keeping ALL company and personnel information strictly confidential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (4+ years).
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, adaptable and have a strong desire to embrace and drive change.
  • Support business users with a positive and approachable manner.
  • May require periodic same-day travel to other SBC office locations.
  • Must be willing to field calls and resolve issues outside normal work hours should they occur.
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and conversely break down overall projects into detailed steps for execution
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Preferred Technical Knowledge

 

  • VMware Virtual Infrastructure:  provisioning new VM’s, daily management, and troubleshooting
  • MS Active Directory and Entra (Azure AD) user management, group policy administration, Managing user access across Microsoft 365 services and On-Premise file servers, printers, etc...
  • Microsoft Teams Phone Administration: Administer Microsoft Teams voice solutions by setting up and maintaining Auto-Attendants, Call Queues, direct routing or calling plans, and user phone number assignments.
  • Microsoft 365 Administration: Administer Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive) using both the admin portal and PowerShell for licensing, mailbox management, permissions, reporting and automation of routine tasks.
  • Mobile Device Management: Utilize Microsoft Intune to configure, manage, and secure mobile devices. Define access groups and control application versioning on corporate devices & BYOD
  • MSSQL Administration: deploying instances, configuring backups and maintenance plans, monitoring performance, and addressing routine database issues.
  • Network Administration: Cisco Meraki Firewalls to manage site-to-site VPN, client VPN, NAT rules, content filtering, etc. Cisco IOS command-line interface for basic network switch troubleshooting, monitoring, configuration, and event log analysis.
  • Cloud-Managed Wireless Network Administration (e.g., Extreme Networks or equivalent): Administer license management, access point deployment, and basic troubleshooting. Maintain a solid understanding of wireless networking fundamentals—such as RF behavior, signal propagation, channel planning, and common Wi-Fi protocols.
  • Administer data backup solutions using Veeam and Synology systems.
  • Provide basic administration and support for Microsoft Teams Rooms equipment.
  • Windows File Server/Print Server for basic maintenance/management, and deployment.
  • Experience with managing and supporting enterprise-grade physical server and storage platforms, including rack-mounted servers (e.g., Dell PowerEdge) and SAN/NAS storage systems (e.g., Dell PowerStore or equivalent).
  • General End-user and Desktop Support.
  • Manage public-facing web servers, including SSL certificate installation and renewal, Public DNS records, NAT rules to support access between public network and internal network.
  • Administer Microsoft Defender to manage email security, including configuring mail flow rules (transport rules), anti-phishing policies, and block/allow lists. Monitor and respond to email threats, spam, and phishing attempts. Security awareness training for employees. *EOP*.
  • Infrastructure Security Management: Monitor, assess, and address security vulnerabilities across servers, applications, and network devices.
  • Procurement & Vendor Management: Collaborate with vendors and service providers to procure hardware, software licenses, and IT services; negotiate pricing and contract terms; manage vendor relationships, including service-level agreements (SLAs), delivery timelines, and performance expectations
