Overview

We are currently seeking a dependable and motivated Driver Lead to support our delivery operations based out of the Lawrence, KS distribution center. This is a working lead position that plays a key role in the market supporting the daily success of our delivery team. The Driver Lead provides guidance, assists in training, supports drivers in the field, and helps ensure company standards for safety, customer service, and efficiency are upheld.

 

Reporting directly to the Transportation Manager, this position is ideal for an experienced delivery driver who leads by example and is ready to take on added responsibility in a team-oriented environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead resource and positive role model for a team of delivery drivers, supporting daily operations and promoting teamwork.
  • Be active in the market daily, supporting the delivery team and addressing operational needs.
  • Provide clear direction, expectations, and consistent feedback to team members.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork and high performance.
  • Serve as a backup delivery driver to cover open routes when necessary.
  • Assist onboarding and ongoing training of drivers, including safety, delivery protocols, and customer service.
  • Conduct ride-alongs to provide coaching and ensure delivery standards are consistently met.
  • Support morning dispatch to confirm drivers have proper paperwork, secured loads, and routing details.
  • Provide assistance with delivery challenges, delays, or unexpected issues throughout the day.
  • Support communication between drivers, sales teams, and leadership to maintain service levels and on-time deliveries.
  • Assist in the daily routing process.
  • Reinforce company policies and expectations in a collaborative and supportive manner.
  • Assist in gathering and reporting operational data, such as delivery metrics or driver feedback.
  • Help maintain compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations, including safety checks and vehicle inspections.

Qualifications

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to developing a high-performance team.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and create a positive team environment that encourages engagement and effort.
  • Ability to think proactively about future needs and challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage others.
  • Experience in team leadership or trainer role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Experience using routing and fleet tracking systems (e.g., Roadnet, Omnitracs, or similar).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally within the state of Kansas (approximately 5% travel).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications are a plus.
  • 3+ years of professional driving experience in beverage, food, or route-based delivery.
